Sunshine, speed and a shot at the green and gold – the 2025 Australian Sprint Championships delivered it at the Gold Coast Triathlon.

Held on a fast and flat course at Broadwater Parklands, the event doubled as a key automatic qualification race for the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Championships in Wollongong.

Among the top performers was Kai Haynes, who secured the Australian title in the 20-24 age category with an impressive race.

“It was good to defend my title from last year, and I’m quite happy with that.” Haynes said.

Along with national glory, the win saw Haynes satisfy the automatic qualification criteria for the 2025 World Triathlon Age Group Championships in Wollongong.

Those who place in the top five of their respective age group categories at the events, and meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the selection policy will be given automatic qualification.

“It always means a lot to wear the green and gold,” Haynes said.

“Last year I was in the lead pack at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Torremolinos-Andalucía and crashed out of the race while on the bike course, so it will be good to hopefully have a crack at the podium in Wollongong on home soil.”

The Gold Coast Triathlon proved once again why it’s a favorite among athletes. The energy and support from the crowd were key to making it an unforgettable experience.

For Linda Meredith, crowned Australian Champion the female 65-69 age group, the event’s energy was undeniable.

“It was so lovely to see so many ladies in the 65-69 age group, it’s just so nice to race with so many amazing ladies from all across Australia” Meredith added.

“After winning the super sprint world title at the 2022 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships in Abu Dhabi, the chance to race on home soil later this year and go after another world title is an incredible opportunity that I am really looking forward to.’
